It’s great to see discussions like these happening. While I may have worded the counsel provided in this article differently, I think it is still very useful. There’s also some good import from this article on how does our faith influence our art.

A solid basic introduction to the Bible and friendship. Another good serieson friendship from TGC by Kevin DeYoung, which I utilized in some discipleship meetings with a student, is his “The Gift of Friendship and the Godliness of Good Friends”.

Rachael Starke writes about the models Scripture has for our churches to teach what a godly man looks like, ultimately in Jesus, but also in Boaz. She makes important arguments that the problem is not patriarchy, as our culture is quick to lament, but it is sin and depravity. The Bible does not share the modern world’s views or definitions of patriarchy: God sees men as leaders meant to protect and provide.

This is a short but easy intro for teaching students how to share their faith. Joe Carter’s five steps are the following:
- Know the Gospel
- Start a Conversation
- Share the Gospel
- Respond to Their Response
- Trust God to Do the Rest
His key to knowing the Gospel lies in answering the following:
- Who Jesus is, especially his identity as royal Messiah and Son of God.
- Jesus’s work of atonement and justification accomplished in the cross and resurrection.
- Jesus’s work of new creation and of rescue from the power of sin.
This is a great method as it focuses much on who Jesus is, which as he points out, is what the Apostles underscored in their preaching.

This article is great as it emphasizes a key point that Sinclair Ferguson makes in his book Maturity, which is that our Christian living is a powerful witness to unbelievers.

I had a friend in college who struggled with his language. This article is helpful for gaining perspective on how to handle Christians and non-Christians when they use bad language.

This article does a good job of expressing how we should think about the words we use and the way we talk about others. While I do think there is a place to use language to describe the behavior and beliefs of fools, this article gives a good introductory discussion on how we should talk to and about the men and women around us.

While America may be a “reached” country by some estimates,1 what this survey shows is that American theology is at a very poor level and in need of great improvement. While we may have issues with false gospels like the prosperity gospel, it is clear that we still have issues with a works-based righteousness in a broad number of our churches, not even a minority, and possibly heretical views of life after death (e.g., universalism). We should pray that the Holy Spirit would pour out a desire for God’s Word upon our country and bring revival through the preaching of His Word. Perhaps then, when the gospel in all its fullness is preached, we would see the changes in our churches we so desire

Here I am thinking of how the target of missions is and should be defined, which I had linked to here and is commonly associated with the Joshua Project. Suffice to say, I think such measurements may be helpful but are ultimately insufficient. ↩︎
